Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai and his
entourage on June 14 arrived in Oslo, embarking on the official visit to
the Kingdom of Norway through separate meetings with Norwegian Minister
of Trade and Industry Trond Giske and Minister of Environment and
International Development Erik Solheim.
At his talks
with Norwegian Minister of Trade and IndustryTrond Giske, Deputy PM
Hoang Trung Hai held that the two-way trade turnover and Norway’s direct
investment in Vietnam are relatively modest in comparison with
potentials and aspirations of the two countries. Hence, the Deputy PM
suggested the two governments attach more importance to economic ties.
Vietnam is
doing its utmost to perfect the legal system, conduct administrative
reforms, better infrastructure, and improve human resources with a view
to offering more favorable business climate for foreign investors,
including Norwegian ones, to succeed in their advantageous domains.
For his part,
Minister Trond Giske expressed his impression on Vietnam’s development
achievements, especially in weathering the global economic crisis.
The visit, said
Mr. Trond Giske, would bring the Southeast Asian and Nordic economies
closer.
The host
Minister also announced that quite a few Norwegian are interested in
shaking hands with Vietnamese partners in such fields as aquaculture,
hydroelectricity and ship building.
On the same day, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai had a lunch
meeting with Norwegian Minister of Environment and International
Development Erik Solheim.
Deputy PM Hai took this occasion to suggest Norway expand
ODA provision for Vietnam in new aspects like combating climate change
and developing clean energy.
Both sides also spent time on discussing preferential
credit projects and negotiations for the Free Trade Agreement between
Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association.
Finally, Deputy PM Hai and Minister Erik Solheim witnessed
the signing ceremony of a training cooperation agreement between the
Vietnam National University and the University of Oslo and the Norwegian
Univerversity of Science and Technology./.
